Week In Madrid
ByThere are things that happen around here that have no real place. Stories I want to tell and random things I stumble upon in the city that I want to share.
Here is my Week In Madrid Review numero uno! The fun, the interesting, the new to me.
1. I stumbled upon a cactus store. Yes, a store devoted entirely to cactus’ (cacti?) But get this…you can rent the cactus too! Like for a party or something.
2. New to me, and even new to Madrid. Couples have started putting locks on the gate surrounding the statue in Plaza Mayor.
You’ve been to this Plaza plenty of times with me…
…and this was my very first time in the Plaza. My very first day in Madrid. All by my single travel adventure self!
3. No Smoking!!! Halle-freakin-luyah!
No smoking in any bar or restaurant. This law has been on the table for years and never passed.
On January 2, 2011 my life was made exponentially easier. Less laundry, a longer life span, and a generally better attitude.
4. I met an American in yoga. She’s from Ft. Lauderdale. We chat. She’s lovely.
5. I watched After Hours with the Spaniard. Has anyone seen this movie?

Dare I say it’s strangest movie I’ve ever seen. Ok, nothing can top A Clockwork Orange. But it’s up there. Seen it?
And with that I’ll leave it at 5 this week.

i am confused by the lock thing….what are they locking up? those bars dont look mobile to me. OR are the bars a symbol of their heart, or maybe the big lock is a symbol for their heart – when they break up with someone, why tell them….just run down to the plaza, open your lock (aka heart) and remove old relationship – possibly lock up a new one or leave blank so every passerby knows you’re single….they wont have your contact info, but who cares….the world will know! see how weird this is??? WAIT A MINUTE – i have an even better idea. What if i’m jealous of someone’s lock relationship, can i go down there with a lock cutter and just cut the other woman right out of their life, and replace her lock with my own – that would make things MUCH easier in regard to me finding a spanish boyfriend while i’m there….i can just claim one in the plaza and call it a day!

Dana… you never seize to amaze me! I think you have figured out the world’s relationship problems. If all it took was a lock and a lock cutter… can you imagine the ease that could have been our previous dating years? Oy Vey!
As for your Spanish boyfriend? I say we give it a try! We’ll just have to find the sexiest name. Just to be on the save side.
